Upon the sailboat Tanga, Dale stumbled upon Nicaragua in route to Costa Rica from Mexico. As with all explorers, there comes a time when our legs are kickin’ to get out again, and Dale’s time in California was no exception… he was bound for unknown territory. After a few years of cruising the Channel Islands, warmer water began her serene call. The first sailing sessions were around the offshore islands of California, where he once again, lived off the abundant sea…. Dale named her Sola and taught himself to sail. It was a 24 foot Nugget built by legendary surfboard shaper Mike Eaton. Once arriving in the bay area, Dale’s new friends sold the load ( what you think bikers drive to Panama and back for the fun of it?) and repaid Dale with enough to buy his first sail boat. Along the way the bikers lost their wallet so Dale sold his camera equipment to fund the rest of the ride home. Riding North in a Yellow Plymouth RoadRunner, they listening to Led Zeppelin and cruised to San Francisco in four days and four hours. Just outside of La Libertad he met two biker guys from San Francisco. When a few weeks turned into a few months and the money ran dry, he hitchhiked home toward California. He thought the trip was for a few weeks and only took a few hundred dollars. It was the fall of ’72 and he shared the point with explorers Bob Rotherham and Eric Penny. Once respect and dues no longer equaled set waves, and agro was “where it was “, Dale flew to El Salvador during the North Shore’s off season. Politics allows you the chance to add a political card to the back of a track of cards to trigger at a later turn providing you with a potential benefit should you be able to fulfil the criteria before the card shows up. It’s fiendishly simple as a mechanic but it makes for some fascinating game theory.Ī turn plays out over 3 phases, Politics, Action and Production. Not only that you have to make sure that it won’t drop into the bottom 3 cards before you turn otherwise you risk losing it to the discard. If you leave a card for a few turns so that it drops down the track thus reducing it’s price you run the risk of your opponent taking it come back round to you. There is a sliding scale of cost of cards from left to right which is the key to why this mechanism is successful. This is a forever moving selection of 13 cards, the bottom 3 of which are discarded at the end of each turn and the remaining cards replacing them with a further 3 added at the opposite end. The driving force of a game of Through the Ages is the card track which sits atop the board throughout. The variety of cards and their abilities are extremely varied in Through the Ages so I can’t go into detail about all of them here but needless to say, they provide multiple avenues for victory as well as offering you with enough flexibility to counter any play made by your opponent. Though you utilise grain, stone and science to play cards, build buildings, increase population and upgrade everything the key to the game is culture as the winner of the game is the player who has the highest culture once the game is over.ĭecisions are driven by a draftable deck of cards which help you upgrade buildings, improve your resources, manage your workforce or provide quick single use injections of resources. The aim of Through the Ages is to build up your civilisation by increasing your production of 4 main resources, grain, stone, science and culture while increasing your population and protecting your civilisation through it’s military. With so many mechanics going on at once you can see how tricky it is to bring to our devices let alone describe how the game works as part of a review and therefore I will do my best to give you an idea of how Through the Ages plays but to truly learn you should take the built in tutorial which is not only fantastic at teaching you ever aspect of the game but also adds some genuine humour to proceedings, the like of which we haven’t really seen in tutorials before. Through the Ages is a civilisation building game (in fact it feels to me like the old computer game Civilization 2 but in a board game) which has elements of card drafting, worker placement, tableau building and resource management. Despite my worry Through the Ages digital has done something that very few games do when they make the leap, it has not only improved the game, but actually replaced the physical version of the game completely, and that is no small feat. Not only is Through the Ages one of the top rated games on BGG, and has been consistently since it’s release, but it is perhaps the weightiest game that as seen the jump to the digital tabletop. When I heard that Through the Ages was coming to our devices I was concerned, very concerned, and for more than one reasons. Is this digital adaptation a one for the ages or should we just rush on through this review? 5/2/2023 0 Comments Marcopolo clubMeanwhile, current Marco Polo Club Green and Asia Miles members will transition into Cathay Green members. Mathematics like Leonhard Euler and Joseph-Louis Lagrange used infinitesimals routinely in the 18th century. Leibniz's use of infinitesimals depends on heuristic principles, such as the law of continuity: what succeeds for the finite numbers also succeeds the infinite and vice versa and the transcendent law of homogeneity, which sets out the methods for replenishing expressions with unexpected quantity, with only assignable expressions. The infinitesimals of John Wallis differ from the indivisible in that he decomposes geometric figures into infinitely thin building blocks that are of the same dimension as that of the figure and prepares the basis of general methods of integral computations. The method of indivisible geometric figures as composed of co-dimensional entities 1. The indivisible approach of Bonaventura Cavalieri led to the results of classic authors being expanded. Simon Stevin has prepared the basis for a real continuum in the work on the decimal representation of all the numbers in the 16th century. The work of Nicholas von Cusa, further developed by Johannes Kepler in the 17th century, particularly in the calculation of a circle area as an infinite-faced polygon, was seen in the 15th century. In his work The method of mechanical theorems, Archimedes used what eventually came to be called the indivisible method to identify areas of regions and solid volumes.Īrchimedes solved the same problem by the method of exhaustion in his formally published treatises. Initially, Nicolaus Mercator or Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz introduced the concept of Infinitesimals around 1670. The usage of the term infinitesimal in a sentence has been taken from a Latin modern ‘infinitesimus’ coinage dating back to the 17th century that originally spoke of the term "infinite-th." Infinitesimals are a key ingredient in Leibniz's infinitesimal calculus procedures, including the continuity law and transcendental homogeneity law. The insight with the use of infinitesimals was that, although these entities were infinitely small, they could still retain certain specific properties such as angle or slope. Infinitesimalmente is a Spanish word for Infinitesimally small numbers. Infinite numbers are summed together to produce an integral. Infinitesimals are often compared with other infinitesimals of similar size as a derivative in order to make them meaningful. Therefore, "infinitesimal" means "infinitesimally small" or less than any standard number of the real number when used as a mathematical adjective. Infinitesimally small is a synonym of the word infinitesimal which means “very, very small”, or “extremely small” or “vanishingly small” or “smaller than anything”.Īn infinitesimal object is an object less than any measurable size, but not so small or small that the available means cannot distinguish it from zero. The below image represents the infinitesimals and infinities on the hyperreal number line. Infinitesimals don't exist in the traditional real number system, but they do in a variety of other systems, including unreal and hyperreal numbers, which are real numbers augmented with a system of infinitesimal quantities, and infinite quantities, which are the reciprocals of the infinitesimals. These structural glimpses provide a blueprint for designing both field-based variant sequencing studies and vaccine development. The infinitesimal definition in mathematics is “The quantities that are closer to zero than any standard real number but are not zero are Infinitesimals”. Our structural analysis details a framework of the interactions between the parasite ligand and host factor EPCR. Of the 11 mutations in the CIDRα1-interaction region of EPCR, S88P, L96V/I, and R98L/H/P/C are seen with comparably higher occurrences in diverse populations. Analysis shows that most EPCR mutations lie on the receptor surface and are non-conservative. We structurally mapped the SNPs on the three-dimensional complex of EPCR and PfEMP1 CIDRα1. In this work, we have collated all single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in EPCR from dbSNP. A single EPCR variant S219G is clinically reported to provide protection from severe malaria. EPCR is implicated in the pathogenesis of severe malaria as preferential binding of CIDRα1 to endothelium results in widespread sequestration of infected erythrocytes leading to endothelium inflammation and severe disease. The CIDRα1 domain of Plasmodium falciparum Erythrocyte Membrane Protein 1 (PfEMP1) in infected erythrocytes adheres to one such vascular receptor endothelial protein C receptor (EPCR). Parasites present diverse antigens at different stages of their life cycle and interact with many surface molecules to attach to and enter host cells. Plasmodium parasites responsible for malaria follow a complex life cycle of which half takes place inside the human host. 5/1/2023 0 Comments Ba pro hoops miniplayImprove cardiovascular health: You’ll have to get into the swing of things but once you find your rhythm, hula hooping can help you get your daily cardio fix as your heart-rate increases.Improve hip and spine flexibility: The circular motion encourages mobility in your hips and spine.Strengthen your lower-body muscles: The unique forward and backward, side-to-side motion as you use a weighted hula hoop will recruit the use of your glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps and calves.Improve posture and balance: Stronger core muscles means better posture and balance overall.Strengthen your core: Spinning a weighted hula hoop forces you to engage your core, meaning that as you twirl you are strengthening your abdominals, obliques and lower back.According to Carla of HulaFit, the potential pros for your wellbeing include, but aren't limited to: What don't they do, would be a more appropriate question. What memories stand out to you from that era? It was incredible, incredible excitement with Elvis.Ĭome the 1960s, you’d have the British Invasion, during which you played with The Roulettes. And then Chuck Berry was playing electric blues. Normally you heard the acoustic blues by black Chicago guys, which was great. Then there was suddenly this blues music, although it didn’t sound like the normal blues. And (Vaughn Monroe song) “The Railroad Runs Through the Middle of the House”. There was Guy Mitchell and people like that singing the blues *whistles*. Before Elvis and “Heartbreak Hotel”, there were things like Rosemary Clooney. It was like hearing something from another planet. I remember being at a birthday party and hearing Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel”. I wanted to play guitar more than piano, but today I play piano as much as I play guitar.Ĭould you tell us a bit about those early days when rock n’ roll first came onto the scene? My brother was already going to piano lessons, so I went to piano lessons from age 8 to 12 and a half. They sent me to piano lessons when I was 8. And then rock n’ roll happened and I was turned on by rock more so. My dad used to play traditional jazz records. She used to play things like Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata”. The first music I remember was light classical music. I could remember my mother playing when she was very young. My brother was a pianist, so I was surrounded by music. One was a professional trumpeter and the other was semi-pro. She had two brothers who played trumpets. RB: Well, I pursued music from the moment I was born, or the moment I could hear and register music, I was into it. So what we’re going to attempt to do in this interview is touch on all of the major facets in your career, starting from the beginning. Here in Chicago, usually the sun is out around now, but there’s a torrential downpour going on outside. The sun is out and that’s unusual for this area *laughs*. Russ Ballard: I’m great thanks! I’m feeling really good. Greetings Russ and welcome to Defenders of the Faith! How are you doing this morning? Ballard was kind enough to sit down with us for an in depth discussion looking back upon his remarkable 60 year career. Did we mention he was the guitarist and lead singer for Argent too? Mr. When we expand our reach to the world of mainstream rock and pop music, the list grows even longer, including the likes of Santana, America, Three Dog Night, Ringo Starr, Roger Daltrey, The Shadows, and more. Among the acts who have recorded his songs are Rainbow, KISS, Ace Frehley, Uriah Heep, Night Ranger, Samson, A II Z, Tokyo Blade, Chevy, Magnum, Girl, Doro…and that’s just within the hard and heavy realm. His songs have dominated both AM and FM radio for decades. For this reason, I would not recommend Emacs to anyone who is under 50 year old, or who needs power user capabilities. The things I just mentioned, are all present in some limited and inept form, but falls far short of current standard of good user interface design. To this day, it lacks or struggles with very basic things, like interactive dialogs, toolbars, tabbed interface, file system navigation, etc., etc. So Emacs does 5% or what an editor should do quite will, and is surprisingly under-powered and old fashioned at the other 95%. Unfortunately, it didn't keep up with the times and fails to take advantage of the entire world of GUI design that's revolutionized computer science since then. In fairness to Emacs, its original design was conceived in that context and is rather good at some things, like flexible ability to bind commands to keyboard shortcuts. User interface is terrible I was using Emacs in the early 1980's, before there were GUIs. |
